Where is it considered ‘acceptable’ to wear wellies?

Quick answer: When you think you will ruin your other shoes!

These days wellington boots are seen at all occasions, walking around town, attending music festivals, taking the bin out, camping, during the school run  – and even at the local pub!

The choice of colour will mainly depend on your tastes. Some people might say that patterned wellies are usually worn by visiting city dwellers but, nowadays, spotty and patterned wellingtons are often seen being worn by local country folk too!

To summarise, wear your wellies whenever you fancy!

My wellington boots are cold but I can’t afford a new pair of Neoprene boots. What can I do?

Some rubber inner wellington boots can be cold and don’t give much damp protection. There are a number of things you can do to improve the warmth of your wellies:

a.  Fleece welly liners – You can insert a fleece sock that fits inside your boots with a turnover top to hold them in place. This essentially gives you fleece lined wellies.

b.  Fleece insoles – You can slot in a pair of Bama fleece insoles, to give extra damp protection

c.  Welly Boot socks – You can wear extra thick and extra cosy socks!

How can I clean the inside of my kid’s wellies?

Do you have children who just love to jump in puddles, sometimes causing muddy water to flow over the top of their wellies? If so, do consider that by leaving any mud and sludge to sit and fester inside the wellies, that they will, over time, start to smell! Below are seven steps to clean the inside of your child’s wellington boots:

1. Mix warm water with a bit of washing up liquid

2. Pour the mixture inside the boots

3. Use a sponge or cloth to scrub the inside of the boots

4. Pour out the water

5. Fill the boots with newspaper, in order to draw the water way from the rubber

6. Place the wellingtons near a radiator/heated location and allow to dry

7. Change the newspaper should it get very wet during this process

I have chunky big calves. Which wellies will fit comfortable?

Many of our customers suffer with athletic or chunky calves. In order to achieve a good comfortable fit, an  adjustable wellington would be your best choice. The adjustable welly has an adjustable strap on the side of the boot with an internal bellowed tongue to prevent water and debris from entering the boot. The strap can be tightened of loosened to achieve the best fit.

Alternatively, a  short wellie may be more comfortable. The tops of shorter length wellington boots will be just below the calf area.

What do I need to think about when looking for the right type of wellies for dog walking?

Support, comfort and grip are key features to think about. When buying a new pair of walking wellington boots the type of sole unit is important. The boots need to offer plenty of arch support and comfort. For more information about the different sole units available please read our  wellington boots Buying Guide
