Our guide to the best places to hike, or walk with your dog, in North Wales

The Clwydian Range and Dee Valley area is described as the scenic gateway to North Wales and is classed as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'!  This is evident from, for example, the breathtaking sea views at Prestatyn, the awe-inspiring countryside of the Hierathog hills and the wonderful historic monuments to be found at Llangollen. Certainly, North Wales is a place you will want to visit time after time!

If you are planning to venture out on to one of our suggested walks, naturally we recommend you wear the right walking gear - as the weather can be a bit unpredictable out in the countryside. It is also suggested that you let a friend or family member know where you are going, just in case you get into any difficulties. (Do remember that mobile phone reception can be poor on the top of the Hiraethog mountain, for example). Some of the dedicated lake walks however are well maintained and have visitor centres located at the beginning and end of the trails. Usually mobile phone reception will be better there!
