The Red Grouse Shooting Season Is Open
With this years Red Grouse shooting season now open, (in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland – but not Isle of Man until August 25th), and with other open seasons for different species soon to follow, it may be time to think about this year’s new collection of shooting clothing items and accessories.
So, where to start? Well, choosing the right jacket for comfort and practicality can often be time consuming and even confusing on occasion – indeed, deciding on a suitable ‘base-layer’, to wear underneath, with the right fit, can also sometimes be problematic. So, at Cherry Tree Country Clothing, we think that finding an easy way to help with these types of decisions might be helpful, and to this end, we have put together some pointers that we think may assist you.
The information that follows discusses some of this year’s range from Hoggs of Fife and Sherwood Forest Clothing, both leading quality brands that offer comfort, style and practicality! We hope the tips below will help you when choosing the garments you may need for this season.
For example, the Chelsey ladies tweed jacket from Sherwood Forest, is new for 2014 and is manufactured to a very high standard! The Chelsey offers fantastic warmth, comfort and practicality and, being made from Australian wool, it will not only keep you warm by regulating your body temperature, but it will also offer you premium quality. There are in fact many benefits of Australian wool, one being that it is easy to keep clean and maintain and another being that it doesn’t attract dust or those pesky dust mites! (Therefore proving just great for asthma and allergy sufferers!) This jacket is also an eco-friendly garment of course, as it is made from a renewable resource.
The shape and cut of the Chelsey jacket means it gives plenty of ‘movement’ and it offers all the essential features, including hand warmer pockets, large bellow pockets, adjustable cuffs and a rear-waist clincher. Produced with a nylon lining, waterproof coating and taped seams, this jacket will keep you dry and comfortable all day long and truly is an elegant shooting jacket definitely worth adding to your shooting clothing collection.

The Hoggs of Fife Strathmoor shooting jacket really is an outstanding jacket! Lightweight, with a soft feel, it is comfortable, practical and functional. Of course, these are just a few words we could use to describe this great jacket.
This is a highly waterproof, breathable and windproof jacket with a tough outer peach microfibre shell, that is stain resistant. It also has a breathable poly/cotton lining, making this garment undoubtedly fantastic value for money! Further, the Strathmoor jacket is ideal to fit over any fleece or gilet and is manufactured to the highest standard, with all the essential features you would expect, including large bellowed cartridge pockets (with retaining straps and drainage holes), a removable hood, hand-warmer pockets, elasticated wrist cuffs and a ‘mini’ inside game-pocket.
This is a “must” for anyone looking for a lightweight jacket that’s suitable for shooting or just everyday wear!
Waistcoats, Gilets and Fleeces
Again new for 2014, the Hoggs of Fife Ranger fleece-lined waistcoat is a multifunctional waistcoat that offers both comfort and style! With an internal micro-fleece lining for warmth and a water and stain resistant outer layer, this waistcoat is simply great either as an extra layer under your shooting jacket or to wear on its own. Designed with many features, such as hand-warmer pockets, an internal phone pocket, large bellowed pockets (with drainage holes) and lightly padded shoulder patches, this waistcoat is just fine for those warmer days out on the field.
The Preston waistcoat is a simple, yet stylish lightweight quilted waistcoat. With a micro-fleece lining for comfort and warmth, and a nylon outer layer, this waistcoat is ideal for use when out and about. The Preston really does look the part when worn with a tattersal shirt and a pair of moleskin trousers and the same applies if you are considering wearing it as a layer underneath your tweed jacket, along with a pair of matching breeks.
