The Royal Welsh Show is fast approaching, and here at Cherry Tree Country Clothing we cannot wait! Starting on July 22nd and running over 4 days, the Royal Welsh Show is one of the most prestigious events of its type in Europe. The event is a well-established blend of the rural community and farming industry working and celebrating together the best of British Agriculture and of course with a dash of special welsh flavour.
A bit of History
The first Royal Welsh Show took place in 1904 and was created by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society. Since then it has become one of the most important events in the welsh calendar. During the earlier years it was held in both North and South Wales in over 37 different locations, and finally found its home on July 23rd 1963 in the picturesque show ground in Llanelwedd where it has grown in popularity and size year on year.

The Show
Based in Llanelwedd (Powys) the shows 4-day event is packed each day with a 12-hour programme covering commemorative celebrations, attractions, displays, and entertainment making a great fun filled family day. It is also well known as a prime shop window for farming in Wales, attracting more than 200,00 visitors, 7,000 entries of livestock and over 1,000 trade stands with entrants traveling from far and wide to compete, and that’s not all! The show doesn’t just focus on agriculture on a large scale, it covers a wide range of activities and interests including, countryside sports, forestry, horticulture, shopping and food and drink.
There is lots going on each day to keep you entertained and active, from admiring horse-riding competitions, to carriage driving displays, falconry and sheepdog trials. There is also lots of opportunity for you to get involved with plenty of games, competitions and hands on workshops.
One of, if not the most popular event of the show is the Welsh Cob Senior Stallion class, where more than 50 stallions’ parade in front of the crowd before being judged. Another great show not to miss is the Atkinson Action Horses, who have been featured in shows such as Poldark, Victoria and Peaky Blinders, its set to be an adrenaline packed stunt display.
This year the Royal Welsh Show is also celebrating 100 years of farming and welsh culture, adding even more unique shows, and events into a jam-packed 4 day experience.
